OnePlus users are not really flaunted with their official software updates with their earlier device models, but coming to their recent devices the company is maintaining a decent prompt in pushing the updates. This year, we’ve seen an high-end smartphone released with impeccable specifications and features from the manufacturer, OnePlus 5 which has even caused confusion about software updates on OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. From the latest Q&A Post shared on OnePlus Forums regarding OP3/3T software support, OnePlus’s Community Manager and Head of Product Oliver Z has answered to most commonly asked questions.
The post reveals the major upheld’s of OP3/3T in comparison with the OP5, Oliver Z has said Android O will be the last major update for OnePlus 3 and 3T. But still, both will be receiving security patch updates and individual application updates in the “for the foreseeable future”. The Open Beta Program will also be discontinued from the series after the Android O update and it’ll be moved to OnePlus 5 devices.
We have been gathering plenty of user feedback on the OP5 following the launch in mid-June. We dedicated our efforts in the first 1-2 months after release to better satisfy users’ needs and boost our latest product’s capabilities.
– Oliver Z commented about OP5 received more updates than OP3/3T
The forthcoming update to OP3/3T is likely to carry August Security Patches and an OxygenOS update is also on the way, coming within 1-2 months it upgrades to version 4.5.
Hence, there won’t be any major updates for the OnePlus 3 or 3T following Android O update due to its hardware differences for the devices that count 14 months and 9 months old after being launched. The OP3/3T doesn’t have the RGB sensor, new off-screen gestures and DCI-P3 screen calibration and in turn, makes it to lack some major features which is present in its successor OP5.
