Time to say Good bye to the third party podcast player apps. Google has rolled out a new feature to the Android running smartphones. With the latest update, you can listen to the podcasts directly at the search itself. You can also subscribe to those podcasts without even have to download anything. Till now, Android users were using other third party apps for subscribing and listening to their favorite podcasts. At the same time, Apple has a dedicated podcast app too. Now, Google heard the users and launched this feature.
“Our team’s mission is to help double the amount of podcast listening in the world over the next couple years,” says Google Podcasts Product Manager Zack Reneau-Wedeen. The first version of the new podcast product is already available today through Google Search on Android and Google Assistant. For instance, here are Google’s search results for “hackable podcast” on Android. According to a podcast production company Pacific Content, Google is now showing information about podcast shows and episode listings in search results on Android handsets. We have checked and verified this ourselves.
Since our first launch, we’ve seen a surprising number of people return through search day in and day out. That’s why we felt the need to build out a full-featured podcast player and make the experience easier to access,” – Zack told to Pacific Content. This feature now works for both Android phone devices and Google home devices. For phones, you need to search your podcast name in the quick search bar. For the home device, use the command to play it instantly.
Reneau-Wedeen said, “The majority of people who listen to podcasts do so on an iPhone. It’s actually so egregious that on a device-by-device basis, the average iPhone listens to over ten times more podcasting than the average Android.”
