Premium smartphone and electronics manufacturer Huawei just got a new patent. The company just received the patent for a water-resistant tablet under their iconic MediaPad series. The patent listing reveals a device named as Huawei MediaPad M5 wp. If it is coming to the real world, this one will become one of the very few water-resistant tablets in the market. The WP in the code name might be hinting at the term wterproof. However, their recent FCC certifications and other patent listings suggest that the wp stands for WaterPlay.
If you don’t know, WaterPlay is a special series by Huawei, which exclusive for waterproof devices only. So this tablet is expected to launch under the MediaPad’s WaterPlay series. However, Huawei doesn’t have much good history on the waterproof devices. Anyways, it will be interesting to see what Huawei brings to the table. However, we don’t have any detailed information about the device including the specifications and price range. If we take considerations of the speculations and rumors, this tablet will come with a 4GB of RAM and three storage variants – 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB
The device is expected to ship with Huawei’s Kirin 960 chipset and an 8-inch screen. It is said to come with the latest Android operating system, possibly the Android Oreo’s latest build based on EMUI. The normal version of the MediaPad M5 is already available in the market. So we can expect the same specifications in the waterplay edition as well. The only notable difference will be the presence of waterproof technology and the latest Android operating system. All other specifications and features will remain same on both devices. However, there will be a notable difference in the pricing of the new waterplay device. It will be slightly more costlier than the normal variant.
We don’t have any information about the availability and launch date of the tablet. However, it is said to come with a 5,100mAh battery out of the box. The tablet will come with the same color variants and other offerings. There are some rumors claiming that the company will launch the base variant of the Huawei MediaPad M5 with slightly more price, because of the waterproof technology. Let’s count on…
